Announcing MBP

Now here comes the theme for this month's Monthly blog Patrol MBP: Mango Masti.. Its May,and its so hot this year, so i thought that's its best to have some mango masti to relieve this scorching heat. MBP is the brain child of Coffee of Spice Cafe and i'm glad that she gave me a chance to be a guest host this month. Mangoes, the “divine national fruit” of India, are delicious fresh or pickled, and are perfect for refreshing summer time beverages or desserts.

So all you need is to cook something from fellow bloggers, containing the king of Fruits, Mango, raw or ripe. It could be anything from a starter, main course, side dish drinks or a dessert - anything as long as it has MANGO.

Some simple guidelines for the event :

1. Based on this month's theme, i.e, MANGO, you have to cook something from the fellow bloggers (the “from” has to be a blogger and not any other cooking site!!) posted recipes.Prepare any recipe using Mango as its one of the ingredient and post about it on your blog by 31st May 2009

2. Post a pic of the final recipe on your blog linking it to the blogger (whose recipe you made) , Coffee’s MBP event page and this announcement. Whether to make it a post or no, is entirely your choice. You can just put a final pic or put step by step pics or if you have made any variations you might want to highlight that or post the whole recipe. Its entirely upto you. But one final pic and a link to the origional recipe is a must.

3. Any number of entries are welcome as long as the posts are done in the month of May. That is 1st May to 31st May. Reposting from archives is also welcomed.

4. The food item should be vegetarian which may contain eggs.

5. Send the following details to neha.agrawal.2610(at)gmail(dot)com with MBP: Mango Masti, as its subject line

Your Name
Blog name
Recipe Name
Recipe URL of ur post
Recipe URL of original post
A Photo of of final dish

6. The use of logo is optional, if you use good, if not then also good.:)

7. If you are a non-blogger and you wish to participate, send in the above details with the recipe. I will post them in the round up.

The last date is 31st May, end of May. Coming soon is the roundup of FIC , do check out...

UPDATE:(7th May) I think there's some cofusion abt MBP, The dish has to be from other bloggers blog. I did updated the post a bit too to highlight the point. Thanx, waiting for the entries..

It's Anuj's 3rd B'Day

It was my younger one's 3rd B'Day( on 16 th january). So i thought of baking a cake for him by myself. Did made my regular Carrot cake only, but tried my hands at icing for the first time. Didn't knew anything about frosting , just browsed the net and finally did this ok types (read pathetic) cake decoration .
Actually in morning when i wished my kiddo and told that's today its your B'Day and you turned three today, he said "No its b'day only when u cut cake, and ballons and party is there." There was no plan for party, and if i just baked the cake, without writing Happy B'day over it, both of my kiddos won't accept it as a B'day cake, hehe.
They loved the cake a lot and had fun. May God Bless him with all the happiness in life.

Wishing all Happy New Year N Best of 2008

Now the time has come to say Bye Bye to 2008 and welcome the New Year with open arms.As the year was ending, i was thinking of writing something about my experiences during this year in the blogworld. I learned a lot (apart from cooking) during this 10 months of blogging. Initially i used to spend so much time browsing other blogs, bookmarking recipes, commenting.. that finally, i was asked by my hubby to take a break.I missed so many exciting events during that time..:( Nevermind.

Before marrige i wasn't much to cooking, just helping my mom sometimes, and when after marrige i had the kitchen of my own, i didn't knew what to do. So for anything to cook i browsed internet and tried the recipe. And then slowly i came across these wonderful blogs, all TRIED N TESTED, which made things easier. So i thought of collecting all my recipes at one place (and sharing them too),and then i came up with this blog ,my own set of fullproof recipes. And now there are so many recipes from other blogs too that are a regular in our menu.

I would like to thank all my blogger friends and readers, who helped me, commented and kept my spirit going. And thanks to Srivalli too, for hosting such a event "Best of 2008", so as to make me write my feelings. It was her blog only where i send my first entry to any event( MEC:Cakes)and she was so polite to reply to all my amateur queries. So this last entry too , goes to you Sri.

My 50th post , two Awards and a MeMe

Hey all, so finally i too reached my 50th post.....:) , and as i think, its quite early for me, (in just 3 months)..

It feels nice, to be in this blogworld, as there's so much to learn. There were a lot of recipes whose names only i had heard, tasted sometimes at friends place, but never ever thought of making by myself. But these blog events are making us do so, and hence increasing the variety in our own kitchens....

And the best part i felt, after being in this blogworld, was that all the recipes were well tested and tried (with some having step by step pictures too), so if you like any recipe, and wanna make it, its sure it'll come same as seen in the final picture....,unlike a lot of recipes available on net.

*************

And now my first Award, Rocking girl blogger award. Thanx Lakshmi for giving me my first award, it really meant a lot to me...,

I wish to pass these award to,

Then came my second Award, Yummy Blog Award, given to me by Sashree of foodiefreaks, thanx alot Sashree..Iwas so happy to receive this award..

Yummy Blog award was first conceptualized by Roopa of Kitchen Treats. Yummy blog award is the award given to the blog with the most yummy recipes/photos. As per the rules,I have to pass this for 4 more persons,But i think mostly yummy blogs are already having this award. I wanna give this award to some persons who really have nice blogging and they deserve this award, though they might have already received it.

So this award goes to,

Nupur of Cinnamon hut,
Trupti of Recipecenter4all
Manasi of funnfud
Srivalli of Cooking 4 All Seasons

And now goes the list of my favourie desserts

Gujia
Gajar ka halwa
Carrot cake
Gulab jamun

Here are the rules for the award recipients

The person who receives the award should display the "Yummy Blog !" logo on their blog and also the meaning of the award which is "Yummy blog award is the award given to the blog with most yummy recipes/photos".
The receiver should also quote their favorite yummy-licious :) dessert(s) that they have ever prepared/eaten. Don't restrict yourself to any dessert, chocolate bars also welcome:).
Also the receiver should pass on the award to four other bloggers who's blog they find "yummy" and let them know about the rules:)

GM diet plan

Hey guys, 2 days back myself and my hubby started the GM diet plan, which i think is very popular among indians(as i searched the net and everywhere its indians only who did it...)..Both of us are actually not obese(don't dare compare with the above one, hehe..), but yep, we have some extra pounds, which we thought of shedding.., for me, its the extra post pregnancy weight (still there with me after 2 years) which i wanted to loose and for him, he's really a bit conscious to stay really fit......(actually i'm a lazy bones, its due to him only we are finally doing this...hehe).Regular exercising or gymming is not our cuppa tea.I had been trying to postpone this too for a few months, but finally with a subh mahurat , it did started....

Ooops...You all must be wondering what's this is all about, can see the links in the right section of the page(both veg. and non veg.versions).

Till now everything's going fine(though i already cheated once....:) ),and i think ,i already lost my appetite or can say carving for grains; first 2 days were a bit tough though, today i feel fine.My hubby's already reduced a bit and he's feeling good too, and as far as i'm concerened, still the same...hehe

I'll definately tell you all the end results. So not much cooking(read, nice n yummy cooking) this week..mostly the vegetable soup only...see u all....

One more thing, we got inspired from our friend, who really wanted to loose weight, and lost 3.5 kgs doing this (along with exercise),and finally reduced 10 kgs in 2 months.....

Rajasthani cuisine

I know a lot of you don't know much about rajasthani cuisine, so just wanted to throw some light over it...

Rajasthani cooking, it was inclined to the war-like lifestyle of its inhibitants and the availability of ingredients of the region. Food that could last for several days and could be eaten without heating was preferred, more out of necessity than choice. Scarcity of water, fresh green vegetables have had their effect on cooking.

In the desert belt of Jaisalmer, Barmer and Bikaner, cooks use a minimum of water and prefer, instead, to use more milk, buttermilk and clarified butter. A distinct feature of the Maheshwari cooking is the use of mango powder, a suitable substitute for tomatoes, scarce in the desert, and asafoetida, to enhance the taste in the absence of garlic and onions.

Generally, Rajasthani curries are a brilliant red but they are not as spicy as they look. Most Rajasthani cuisine uses pure ghee (clarified butter) as the medium of cooking. A favourite sweet dish called lapsi is prepared with broken wheat (dalia) sautéed in ghee and sweetened, along with the more popular Dal bati churma.

Crops like millet (bajra) and barley (jowar) is also used as it could be cultivated in parts of Rajasthan. Use of beans from locally grown plants like sangri, ker etc besides dried lentils is also popular here. Gram flour is a major ingrediant here and is used to make some of the delicacies like khata, gatta ki sabzi, pakodi; powdered lentils are used for mangodi, papad. Also there's yummy moong dal bhajjis. The daily food in Rajasthan typically comprises unleavened bread, made of wheat, barley, millet or maize. The bati, lachhedar paratha and besan ki missi puri are types of bread peculiar to Rajasthan.

Rajasthan is famous for its collection of exotic desserts too, like ghewar , pheni, jalebis, rasgullas, falda, Mishri Mawa, Sohan Halwa, Mawa Katchori, Dil Jani etc.Rajasthan is also famous for spicy chutneys and pickles. Bikaner also has a whole range of other savories and snacks like the world famous Bikaner ki bhujia. The best part about Rajasthan cuisine is not just the taste, but the way it is served for guests.

I hope i've given a good overview of rajasthani food. Here's its all veg, but red meat is also popular, i don't know much about it ,being a vegetarian myself

The above picture of the typical rajasthani thali(that i googled out), is not a exaggeration. Even now when i go back to my hometown,or have some religious function we are served thali's like this only......

BlogRolls and a query...

Finally, i too joined the 2 blogrolls, Great cooks blogroll and The foodie blog roll.

My blog is in very amature stage, and i wish ,i could get feedbacks from all my visitors, about how they feel about it, my recipes, my snaps, and did they even tried any recipe??, or planning to try. As i mentioned earlier in one of my post , that the initial purpose of my making this blog was just to consolidate my recipes at a place, but now again, i have a long list of recipes from other blogs that i wanna try (now, that too scattered everywhere in my computer)...hehe.
Hopefully, soon i 'll be able to find some way, to manage them too... :)

One more thing, i wanna know, how much do u all spend in managing your blogspots??, I really see such nice blogs, so well managed, with such a nice and well written articles along with the recipes, that too, a lot are working ladies (unlike me, a housewife). I too wanna improve my blog to be well managed, with a lot of interesting recipes, but.. hey, that takes a hell lot of time. May be, i am a bit slow in my computer skills, that's why??,

Anyways, the main purpose of this post was the one posted in top, my 2 Blogrolls...

Happy blogging to all. :)
